Cookies
The site does not require cookies for core reading and navigation.
Google AdSense cookies
When Google AdSense is enabled and an ad request is made, Google may place advertising cookies or use similar local-storage technologies. These technologies can support ad delivery, measurement, frequency control, and personalised advertising. Google advertising cookies may be associated with Google or country-specific Google and DoubleClick domains.
Google explains that an advertising cookie may be set after an impression, click, or other ad activity, and that ad tags can contact Google's servers even when an ad does not ultimately appear.
You can manage personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings or learn about broader industry choices at YourAdChoices.
Consent requirements
For visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, Google requires the site owner to disclose the relevant advertising technology providers and obtain consent where required for cookies, local storage, and personalised advertising. Personalised ads require a Google-certified consent management platform integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework.
The current site preference for optional analytics is separate from Google advertising consent. It does not grant permission for AdSense cookies or personalised ads.
Skimlinks affiliate cookies
When affiliate tracking is enabled, the Skimlinks script may use cookies or similar technologies to recognise outbound merchant clicks, attribute purchases, prevent fraud, and report commissions. These technologies are controlled by Skimlinks and its participating merchants.
Affiliate tracking is disabled until the Skimlinks account is approved and `PUBLIC_AFFILIATE_ENABLED=true` is configured. Where consent is required, configure a consent management platform before loading the Skimlinks script.
Optional analytics
If you allow analytics, Google Analytics 4 may set its _ga first-party cookie to distinguish visitors and sessions. Google Analytics may also collect page views, session statistics, approximate location, and browser/device information.
The site stores your analytics choice locally as football-brief-analytics-consent. Choosing “Decline” prevents the Google Analytics script from loading. This preference is separate from AdSense and Skimlinks consent.
Advertising
Display advertising remains disabled until the Google AdSense account, ad settings, consent solution, and provider disclosures are configured. Cookie behavior may change when advertising is activated.
